Our guest speaker is Sonia Martin, LICCSW, PIP, who will discuss "Measuring Bonding and Attachment - What's Love Got to Do With It?"  Moderated by CLE Committee member Melissa Bodie and co-moderated by Derry Johnson, CLE Committee Chair.

This training will explore biological responses to disrupted attachment and will give participants an understanding of how to assess best placement for a child to include relative resources, foster parent transitions and how to best develop a transition plan when necessary.

The initial 20 minutes of training will review basic brain structure (frontal cortex - executive functioning and the amygdala - fight/flight/freeze response) and their accompanying role in behavior, adjustment and bonding.

The following 20 minutes will provide participants with an understanding of how best to utilize relative resources as well as teach/train on the importance of timely placement.

The remaining time will be used to help participants understand the impact of disrupted attachment on the life of a child, as well as demonstrating evidenced based assessment tools to assist the court in determining who the child is bonded to.  Additionally, there will be an overview of existing case law and appellate court decisions.

Approved by the Alabama State Bar MCLE Commission for 1.0 hour MCLE Credit.
