The discussion for this program will define vicarious trauma. There will be a discussion about how both sides of a criminal case are likely to experience vicarious trauma. Identifying when we are being affected by it and most importantly how to adequately address it to avoid it negatively impacting not only work, but also our personal lives. Our guest speaker, Chief Annetta Nunn (YWCA Central Alabama's Domestic Violence Program, Glenda Davis Deese Foundation, Birmingham Police Department), was the first African American woman promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Birmingham Police Department, and was later appointed Chief of Police. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Leadership Birmingham, the FBI National Executive Institute, and YWCA Momentum Program. She speaks to different groups about several aspects of the criminal justice system, including the impact it has on the people working within it. She has spoken multiple times before to groups about what vicarious trauma is, identifying it, and addressing it.
