In this program entitled "The Keller Doctrine, the Janus Decision, and Lobbying Rules", guest speakers SAMUEL FORD** and RYAN ROBICHAUX* will give you a better understanding of the extent to which mandatory bars such as the Alabama State Bar can engage in political-type activities as defined by the Supreme Court in cases such as Keller v. State Bar of California and Janus v. AFSCME. You will also learn how the ASB maintains compliance with the law in its area. His
practice focuses on the litigation of personal injury cases and handling
of all legal matters pertaining to the Birmingham Jefferson County
Transit Authority. Sam joined Petway, French
& Ford as an associate in 2015 and became a partner in 2019. Prior
to joining Petway, French & Ford, he served as a Deputy District
Attorney in the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office,
representing the State of Alabama in jury trials for felony criminal
matters occurring in Montgomery County. Sam graduated from The
University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies in
2007. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Tulane School of
Law in 2012. After graduating from law school, Sam served as a law clerk
for The Honorable Elisabeth French. *Ryan Robichaux is a Partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, specializing in political advocacy and compliance, where
he represents clients before the executive and legislative branches of
government in Washington, D.C., Montgomery, Alabama, and other states.
His work in these areas includes representation of businesses, trade
associations, political action committees, nonprofits, government
contractors, and other individuals and entities that are involved in the
political process. Ryan also has significant experience representing
candidates for public office. Ryan got his start in politics working as a political analyst in the
U.S. Senate and the British Parliament. Prior to law school, Ryan served
as a legislative aide in the U.S. Senate where he specialized in
agriculture, judiciary, trade and manufacturing policy. He also served
as a research assistant for a member of the British Parliament. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2009.
