You’ve probably
never heard of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), but you will. The CTA goes
into effect on January 1, 2024, and it is one of the most sweeping law
enforcement acts passed in Congress in a generation. The CTA mandates that
virtually every legal entity formed in the US undertake the obligation to
disclose its “beneficial owners.” Even more, the CTA requires attorneys AND
THEIR STAFF to submit personal information to the newly-formed FinCEN law
enforcement agency if they assist in forming or maintaining legal entities.
Failure to do so will result in fines of up to $500 a day and/or up to $10,000
or 2 years in jail. Tripp Watson, Entrepreneur Attorney for The Watson
Firm, will be providing an overview of the CTA, as well as practical applications
for maintaining compliance for your clients and for your firm. If you represent
businesses in any way, from Fortune 500 companies down to proverbial “side
hustles,” you can’t afford to miss this CLE. 1 hour of CLE credit Free for BBA members; $20 for non-members (sign into your member profile to obtain the free price)
