Saba F. Syed and Brent A. Turman will examine the fatal crowd crush event at Grammy nominated Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival in November 2021 and the ensuing multidistrict litigation from the defendants’ perspective by evaluating plausible defenses, procedural hurdles and the culpability of each party. They will also provide takeaway lessons on proper crowd control and management for the live events industry in a post-pandemic world.

Texas litigator Brent Turman’s practice covers a variety of areas including business disputes, intellectual property, real estate, and civil RICO actions. He advocates for clients ranging from start-ups to high net worth individuals to Fortune 50 companies. Before Brent’s legal career, he worked in television production for ESPN/ABC College Football. Outside of the office, Brent produces short films, and he recently worked as a Remote Producer for the XFL’s relaunch in 2020.

A skilled litigator, Saba routinely represents companies and high-net-worth individuals in complex commercial litigation covering a variety of areas, including securities, business torts, patent and trademark disputes, partnership disputes and real estate litigation. She has represented companies in industries ranging from energy and manufacturers to landlords and investors. Saba is experienced in a variety of arbitration venues, including the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and has represented consumers and financial advisors in financial disputes. She also works with clients in the live events and hospitality industries, assisting with trademark issues and providing industry-specific legal counsel.
